TALK: Friends of the Library talk

Jan Fullerton will talk about the National Library of Australia's efforts to be relevant to all Australians wherever they live and work.

Jan Fullerton was appointed to the position of Director-General of the National Library of Australia in August 1999. Jan was the first female and the first internal appointment to this key position of leadership within the Australian library community.

Jan’s library background has spanned all areas of library operations including cataloguing, acquisitions and collection development, preservation, information services and document supply. In her position as Director of Collections and Reader Services, and subsequently as Deputy Director-General, she was instrumental in leading the development of the National Library’s digital collection and access policies and services.

In her role as Director-General, Jan has positioned the National Library as a leading organisation in the delivery of information to users through aggregated services such as the PictureAustralia digital image service and a major new digitisation program. The Library’s new strategic statement, Directions for 2003-2005, reflects Jan’s influence in moving the Library in a direction that will ‘break down the barriers’ that prevent users from easily and directly accessing information resources.
