The voyage of the French corvette L'Uranie under the command of Louis de Freyincet during the period 1817-1820, was the culmination of a programme of French interest and scientific explorations that included Australia.
Smuggled aboard was Louis' wife Rose, so beginning one of France's geat loves stories. She among other, recorded the events that transpired, including running ashore in the Falkland Islands.
Accounts and artwork that survived were crucial in the subsequent location of the wreck site and its survivor's camp by the WA Maritime Museum Team lead by Dr Micahel McCarthy.
