Jennifer Byrne, host of the ABC TV program Foreign Correspondent, got her first foreign posting in her early 20s, working from San Francisco for The Age newspaper. Some 25 years, dozens of countries and countless stories later, she's still at it - and regards the thunk of the plane door, just before take-off, as one of the most thrilling sounds in the world. Foreign correspondents are a distinct tribe, ranging from Graham Greene with his notebook in the bar, to the CNN correspondent with the latest technology. What do they actually do? And, given the risks, why? How do they choose their stories? Jennifer's experiences range from diving for buried treasure in Guam, to riding a helicopter gunship through Afghanistan, to being chased through Burma. Come and learn about a foreign correspondent's life.
