Join artist Elizabeth Maruffo for a fun workshop learning how to make a tiny felt sculpture of your favourite dog.
It is the Chinese Year of the Dog this year and this workshop is also part of the A Portrait of Taiwan in Perth project. There is an opportunity for your creation to be exhibited in the upcoming Pup Pup is the Boss of the Stars exhibition, which will be held at Midland Junction Arts Centre in August (or if you love your sculpture too much you can take it home with you after the class). More information about this will be provided on the day.

Using polymer clay and a range of clever sculpting tools, you will learn the basic skills to help you sculpt these prehistoric cuties. Working from the graphic novel Home Time, by Campbell Whyte, you’ll get an inside look into how the world of The Peaches came to be. From wild costumes and hilarious accessories, these cuties are filled with character and bursting with energy.
You’ll learn how to design distinct Peach characters, each with their own personality and sense of style. You’ll then use native plants, leaves and seedpods, along with felt to sculpt your own characters, just like the creator of Home Time did!

The AUSTA Big Cello Day Out will be held at the UWA Conservatorium of Music.
Activities will include: opportunities for junior, intermediate and advanced students to play and receive feedback from expert teachers, cello ensemble workshops, and the chance for teachers of junior, secondary and tertiary students to observe and participate in discussion forums with guest teachers.
Visiting cellists include Thomas Gregory (UK), David Pereira (ANU) and Alvin Wong (Melbourne), Louise Butler (ACT) among others, will provide expert insights and feedback to participants.
The day will conclude with a master class by WASO soloist and international cellist, Pablo Ferrández.
Registration can be made for individual sessions, combined sessions or the whole day. Special discounts are available for AUSTA National Conference delegates, AUSTA members and students. Attendance at all sessions is free for Australian tertiary music students with current university ID. A catered lunch may be ordered online along with your registration.
