'Dynasties and Composite States in Early Modern Europe: "Spain" and "Denmark" compared' : A CMEMS/Lund University Seminar Other events...
Dr Liesbeth Geevers is a postdoctoral research fellow in the Department of History at Lund University. Liesbeth studies the role of dynasties in early modern state formation in Europe. She has worked extensively on the Nassau-Orange family and edited Dynastic Identity in Early Modern Europe - Rulers, Aristocrats and the Formation of Identities (Routledge, 2015) with Mirella Marini, which examined the formation of dynastic identities in relationship to the lineage’s own history, other families within the social elite, and the ruling dynasty, in the context of recent work by political historians has increasingly questioned the dominant role of ruling families in state formation, underlining instead the continued importance and independence of individuals. She is currently leading a Riksbankens Jubileumsfondproject titled 'Re-thinking Dynastic Rule: Dynasties and State Formation in the Habsburg and Oldenburg Monarchies, 1500-1700' and is writing a book, provisionally titled 'Dynastic rule in action: The House of Austria and the Spanish Habsburg Monarchy (1500-1700)'.

* This seminar is part of a joint series between CMEMS and Lund University. We will be videolinking with Sweden for the presentation.
