PUBLIC LECTURE: UWA Albany Public Lecture

Dr Nicholas Bannan introduces the repertoire of The Winthrop Singers, directing the choir in highlights of their repertoire that spans the centuries from the ecstatic chant of German nun Hildegard of Bingen to a composition by a current member of the choir. Nicholas will place in context the different genres the choir performs, whether arising from the weekly series of Chapel services they lead at St George’s College, or from the joy of simply singing together.
The Winthrop Singers largely sing unaccompanied, and Nicholas will illustrate both how the phenomenon of a cappella music has evolved over time, and how the choir prepares to perform it. The session will present a wide variety of choral music from Europe, America, Africa and Australia.
