Title: How to convert teams of vultures into supportive cultures

Abstract:

This presentation will revolve around a very specific topic: How can we solve every problem in the world today. Specifically, this presentation will explore three premises. First, whenever individuals perceive their future as certain, vivid, and important, they tend to be more resilient, responsible, innovative, and productive. Second, if people feel their community is cooperative, their duties are unambiguous, the values of society are stable, and their capabilities are malleable, they tend to perceive their future as certain, vivid, and important. These four conditions should thus resolve many problems in society. Third, initiatives that foster one of these four conditions tend to impede the other four conditions—explaining many challenges to modern society. The presentation will end with some innovative initiatives that could resolve these paradoxes and promote wellbeing.

SPEAKER BIO:

Dr Simon Moss is an Associate Professor at Charles Darwin University. His primary research interest concerns how characteristics of organizations and societies, such as inequality of income or leadership, influence the brain functioning—and ultimately the mood, creativity, intuition, engagement, honesty, and altruism—of individuals. To investigate these issues, Simon has published a range of books and articles in the fields of leadership, motivation, integrity, and stress. For example, he is an author of “The negative side of positive thinking”, “Where should I work?”, “The Science of Management”, “Sustainable coaching”, and “Emotional Intelligence: Journey to the Source”.
