Archaeology Seminar Series : Ancient Water Management Systems and Palaeolandscape History in the Jarash valley, Jordan |

The Jarash Water Project was initiated to study the ancient water management systems in the Jarash valley in northern Jordan. The talk will explain the study’s multidisciplinary approach and the results of field surveys over four seasons. Water management systems are the prime focus; however, the study has revealed some interesting - and unexpected - insights into the valley’s palaeolandscape history and has triggered separate cooperative studies into the 14C dating of lime plaster and the analysis of palaeoclimate proxy data contained in speleothems, spring tufa and calcareous sinter lining Roman-period canals.
Don Boyer is an experienced geologist and has been involved in archaeology through two UWA projects - APAAME and the
Jarash Hinterland Project - since 2007 and his own PhD project since 2012.
