UWA School of Music is a vibrant centre for research in music and music education, where a thriving community of scholars is engaged in exploring the frontiers of knowledge, working on a wide range of research projects with diverse outputs.
A free weekly seminar series, with presenters from within UWA and from the wider community.
This week Louise Devenish presents a seminar entitled: Greater Than The Sum of Its Parts: Balinese Gamelan Instruments, Electronics and Composer-Performer Collaboration
Composer-performer collaboration has played a vital role in the development of solo percussion works since the 1950s. Kinabuhi | Kamatayon (2015) brings traditional Balinese instruments together with contemporary percussion techniques and electronics. Key areas of interest included exploration of the pitch relationships between different instruments, development of new acoustic sounds through extended techniques and further expansion of the sonic palette by incorporating electronics.
