Policies, which are statements of the principles governing decision-making, are dynamic in nature. For policies to be effective they must be implemented with clear procedures and widely disseminated and understood. The University uses policies and procedures to give clear directions, set standards and ensure consistency – reducing risks and saving time.
This workshop will enable participants to develop the skills to write clear policies and procedures that can be easily understood and acted on. We will focus on both policy formulation process and content and participants will be given the opportunity to assess and work on selected policies. You will undertake a number of practical writing exercises which exemplify the typical policy development process. These exercises facilitate thinking about how written communication can be used as a tool to engender stakeholder support or even amend a policy to meet changing needs and demands.
