A public lecture by John Goodge, Professor of Earth and Environmental Sciences, University of Minnesota-Duluth.
In this lecture, Professor Goodge will discuss the Rapid Access Ice Drill (RAID), currently in development, which will be able to will penetrate the Antarctic ice sheets in order to core through deep ice, the glacial bed, and into bedrock below. This new technology will provide a critical first look at the interface between major ice caps and their subglacial geology.
Professor Goodge is the lead principal investigator on the Rapid Access Ice Drill project. He studies geotectonic evolution of continental crust in East Antarctica and the Transantarctic Mountains.
Attendance at this lecture is free, but RSVP is requested via the webpage.
