PUBLIC TALK: Light Events
|
|
A public lecture by Rebecca Baumann, artist.
Light is capable of transforming spatial environments - an intangible material which can be manipulated and sculpted. It has the power to affect us psychologically, as well as alter our perception of the world around us. In this presentation Rebecca will speak about the use of light in her visual arts practice, both as an activation device and way to explore colour, duration, and perceptual phenomena. She will also speak about artists such as Carlos Cruz-Diez, Dan Flavin and James Turrell, who utilise light as material, through immersive environments, sculptures and projections.
This event is part of LightTALKS, a lecture series where scientists and artists talk about optics, organized to celebrate the 2015 International Year of Light.
IYL2015 at UWA is co-sponsored by the Institute of Advanced Studies, Lions Eye Institute, The Optical Society and SPIE, the international society for optics and photonics.
Cost: Free, but RSVP required via the website.
