PUBLIC LECTURE: UWA Albany Public Lecture

Traditionally, mental health conditions are seen as a 'clinical problem'. The focus has typically been on diagnosing 'the problem' and then attempting to eliminate it via treatment and therapy. From the perspecitve of someone who has both occupied senior roles within UK mental health services and faced the challenge of rebuilding a life with mental health problems, Rachel will argue that a focus on professional treatment and diagnosis may have served to entrench and perpetuate exclusion. She will suggest that we need to move from a primary focus on treatment and therapy to a focus on education and growth.
