Translating Insights from Biological Systems into Drug & Diagnostic Development Strategies Other events...
Dr Jonathan Fitzgerald joined Merrimack Pharmaceuticals in 2005 to apply modeling and simulation to understand biological systems as a method of selecting drug targets, indications, and diagnostic biomarkers for the treatment of cancer. He has contributed to and led multiple therapeutic design efforts at Merrimack, including selection of first-in-class lead molecules targeting the ErbB3 and IGF1R pathways. Currently his team is developing novel PET & MRI-based diagnostic approaches for identifying patients who will benefit from treatment with Merrimack’s nanotherapeutics (long circulating liposomal encapsulations of chemotherapies). In this presentation he will describe two examples of biological systems insights that were directly translated into clinical trials that completed recently.

Dr Fitzgerald performed his PhD research studying cartilage mechanotransduction pathways at Massachusetts Institute of Technology after obtaining undergraduate degrees in Physiology and Electrical Engineering at UWA.
