Abstract:
In this paper we reconcile research on wellbeing measurement
with Sen's freedom to achieve approach. In doing so we develop procedural ethical principles and the associated stochastic dominance conditions as well as capability ethical principles and the associated stochastic dominance conditions. To provide an empirical illustration, we use information on women's' individual freedom available in Demographic Health Surveys (DHS).
