Tell Timai, a Tell site in the Nile Delta, represents the remains of the Greco-Roman city of Thmuis, inhabited from c.500 BCE to c.900 CE. Since 2007 a University of Hawaii team has been conducting archaeological investigation at the site. To date most efforts have concentrated on mapping the Tell and conducting salvage excavations in areas threatened by development. However, during the 2012 field season the team moved to the centre of the Tell and investigated structures adjacent to a large temple and the Roman period forum. Archaeological excavation recovered evidence of occupation in this area between 200 and 500 CE, followed by a period of industrial reuse. This seminar provides details of preliminary results from these excavations as well as discussing threats to the site from development, and the implications of the 2011 revolution on continued archaeological investigation in Egypt.
