Talk by Simone Favelle - "Up, down, round and round: Matching faces across changes in axis and rotation" Other events...
Studies from my lab have demonstrated that face recognition following rotations in the pitch and yaw axes is viewpoint dependent and that the effect of change in viewpoint in the pitch axis is qualitatively different to that in yaw (Favelle, Palmisano & Maloney, 2007; Favelle, Palmisano & Avery, 2011). However, my recent research suggests that this specific pattern of results is unique to situations in which generalisation is made with reference to a full-face view. Quite different patterns of results are found when generalisation occurs in reference to views of faces rotated in either the pitch or yaw axis. I will discuss these results, and others, and what it suggests about the kinds of information the visual system stores about faces.
