In this 40th anniversary of the first Bayliss Youth Lecture, Professor Allan McKinley, from the University of Western Australia, and Dr Jeff Davis, an Industrial chemist, will discuss some of the major ways chemistry has improved our lifestyle and standard of living. These
chemical advances will be demonstrated by a series of chemical reactions involving
bangs, flashes, flames and fantastic colours.
The Bayliss Youth Lecture is organised by the Chemical Education Group of the Western Australian Branch
of the Royal Australian Chemical Institute (RACI). This group was formally constituted in 1980 and aims to foster a close and continuing
interaction among students, teachers and practising chemists - both industrial and academic - with the
objective of developing interest in and an understanding of the full ramifications of chemical science.
The Bayliss Youth Lecture is free but bookings are essential as seating in the venues is
limited. Bookings should be made by sending an email to
[email protected] with “UWABayliss”
in the subject line.
Lectures will also be held at other locations which will be expanded throughout the year:
