The conference title – Crime and justice challenges in the 21st century: Victims, offenders and communities – encapsulates several enduring issues facing criminal justice researchers and practitioners in the early 21st Century. It invites papers seeking to improve our understanding of social policy and practices surrounding crime, victimisation and offending. What is the role of criminal justice institutions compared with newly co-opted agencies in ‘the fight against crime’? What conflicts are there between justice and effective crime reduction? You are invited to participate in these debates and to share the results of your research, evaluations and critiques.
